When I talk about how great zentangling for kids is, I usually get great reactions from other parents. Occasionally though a parent has difficulty seeing how it applies as more than just an activity to keep kids busy. I have to admit that I'm not that articulate when this happens. I have a really hard time understanding when someone doesn't value art for its own sake and find myself just staring at them in silence, mouth slightly agape.

I recently received a great example though from my 11-year-old that I can now talk about when necessary.

Mia was studying different cultures in one of her classes in Middle school. She and her partner were assigned to write a story  based on mythology from India. Part of the assignment was to illustrate the story. The village she drew came straight from zentangling! Yay! She drew houses but just drew them bigger for her assignment. Here are two pictures, one closer up of the art work. Her teacher loved the art.
